What is Pilates?

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by German born Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. It is now a hugely popular method of keeping fit and healthy which has been adopted worldwide.Pilates is seen as the art of controlled movements, Emphasis being placed on alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core.It also improves overall strength and flexibility and can reduce lower back pain and improve posture by strengthening the muscles that support the spine.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. It allows us to notice how things ‘really are’ and to cultivate attitudes that make us happier and healthier. These attitudes include being ‘non-judgmental’, being ‘kind to ourselves’ and learning to ‘accept’ and ‘let go’.Joseph Pilates rightly believed that mental and physical health was closely connected.

As a Mindfulness teacher as well as a Pilates teacher I have discovered that combining these two effective systems has led to greater results for my clients in terms of physical and mental wellbeing.
