When connective tissue is underused, it becomes less elastic which can lead to aches and stiffness. We can gently stretch connective tissue by holding a yin pose for extended periods of time. The body will respond by making them a little longer and stronger.

What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, therapeutic style of yoga. Yin postures are more passive postures, mainly done on the floor either seated or lying down. There is, in fact, very little dynamic movement and usually no standing poses at all. Yin Yoga is unique in that you slowly relax into the posture, allowing the body to soften and release naturally without pushing or straining.
It is not uncommon for postures to be held for three to five minutes, even ten minutes at a time. The time spent in these postures is much like time spent in meditation.
The key to practicing Yin Yoga is finding stillness in each position. The goal is to access the deeper tissues of the body, such as connective tissue and fascia, and many of the postures focus on areas that encompass a joint such as the hips, sacrum, spine.
Yin yoga is a complementary practice to more active styles and forms of movement aiming to stimulate deep muscle release within the body.
Yin also brings about profound rest, stillness and connection to our breath.
Whether you are taking your first steps on your path of yoga and wellness or you have taken many already, I believe with a supportive movement and awareness practice coupled with my gentle approach, knowledge shared and space given that you can confidently rediscover and reconnect to the essence of you, your body, your mind, your whole health and begin to create your own wellness.
What are the benefits?
Below are some of the benefits of Yin Yoga practice, from stretching your connective tissue to reducing stress and anxiety.
1. Lengthens connective tissue
2. Increases flexibility
Elastic fascia and mobile joints lead to better flexibility, which is one of the key benefits to a regular yin yoga practice. Fascia needs sustained stretching to actually affect its elasticity which is why Yin is so effective. It is a wonderfully effective way to improve your flexibility and release tension in those tight spots.
3. Boosts your circulation
By breathing into each pose and targeting your deeper tissues and ligaments, you bring more oxygen into your body and to your muscles. This helps increase blood flow and circulation.
4. Reduces stress levels
Studies have found yin yoga to have a significant impact on lowering stress and anxiety. Yin practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which calms your body and slows your heart rate. It's way of turning on the body's 'Relaxation Response' rather than the Fight-or-Flight stress reflex.
